I can speak from first-hand knowledge that Barre class is an effective way to shape your quads, gluteus and abs as well as being a calorie burner without aerobic activity!
I started at Pure Barre after enjoying Pilates for six years. Pilates is an amazing way to learn about breathing, balance, strength and creating a mind-body connection. For me (a type ‘A’ personality), it forced me to not use strength to power through exercise, but rather finesse. But I was feeling a need to try something new.
Then I purchased a Groupon for Pure Barre for a friend having a birthday, I decided to get one for myself to join her. I enjoy different types of exercise at least five days or week and consider myself fairly fit, but I never estimated how challenging Barre class would be to me.
Barre class exercises arms, core, back, quads, glutes, hamstring, and calves through small isometric muscle movements using either 2-3 pound eights or body-weight. It lifts your seat, tones your thighs, tapers your hips and burns fat in record-breaking speed. I go 3-4 days per week for the 50 minute classes. I also own several DVDs that I can take when I travel and play on my laptop.
In the middle and at the end, the class stresses the importance of stretching by including it within the choreography of the class. The whole class is designed to upbeat music, followed by relaxing songs to mesh with the final stretch.
One of my favorite aspects of the class is the friendships and comradely that is present because of the outstanding, well-trained teachers who are required to attend regular, nationally based and taught training. Also the other students are in all age ranges, but have a similar interest in learning and improving!
