Exercise Your Way to Happy & Healthy

Working out in the morning is a great way to jump-start your day, get your blood flowing, and your energy boosting.  I exercise at home, while my children are sleeping, with DVDs.  I am dedicated because I love the way it makes me feel (energized, flexible and strong) and look.  I enjoy the loosening of stiffness from sleeping, and having personal time to start out my day.  Not everyone is a morning person though, so working out during your lunch break or evenings may be better for you.

Whenever you find is your ‘mojo-time’, exercise boosts fitness and weight goals; helps promote better long-term health including bone density and brain health.  The endorphins (love/happy hormones) are a welcomed bonus! Some of my favorite exercises that can be done using your own body weight, dumbbells or tubes are:

  • ·         Squats
  • ·         Backward triceps rows
  • ·         Biceps curls (turned out, facing forward, hammer)
  • ·         Triceps dips
  • ·         Straight + bent arm shoulder raises
  • ·         Step-ups onto a bench or stairs
  • ·         Push ups
  • ·         Straight leg dead-lifts
  • ·         Dumbbell lunges (front, sideways, backward)
  • ·         Plank (regular or side-facing)
  • ·         Wall squats (30 seconds)

Perform 8-12 of each, back to back, then rest 1-2 minutes.  Repeat the circuit up to 3 times depending on your time issues and fitness levels.  Exercise is essential to your long term health and weight management.
