Valentine Treats Don’t Have To Sabotage Your Weight Goals!
There is a lot of build up for holidays of love to give or eat heavy chocolate desserts. But they are not the only way to enjoy a ‘sweet-treat’! Here at Paula’s Healthy Living we endorse moderation. That means, most of the time, create a food plan including whole foods, healthy drinks, regular exercise, and rest; but having treats in moderate portions are good for your soul. Here is a recipe from Oxygen Magazine that feels indulgent, but has 193 calories, 13g of fat, 6mg of salt and 13g of sugar.
1 1/2 cups dried dates, pitted
1/4 cup flaxseed meal
1/4 cup raw cacao powder
1/4 cup unsalted almond butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Zest of 1 medium orange
Juice from 1/2 medium orange
1/2 cup unsweetened shredded dried coconut*
*you can toast the coconut if you prefer that flavor
-Place dates in a bowl, cover with water and let soak for 30 minutes.
-Drain and place dates in a food processor along with the flax meal, cacao powder, almond butter, cinnamon, orange zest, orange juice and a pinch of salt.
-Blend until mixture clumps together.
-Roll 1 tablespoon of the mixture into a circular ball, using damp hands.
-Spread the coconut on a plate and roll the balls in the coconut
